SEAS 3.8 Preview
There are many exciting things happening with SEAS for 2009 and we think you will share our enthusiasm for the numerous improvements in version 3.8. First up, SEAS is now Windows Vista compatible. Turns out the issue was a unilateral change Microsoft made to two class handles that broke the link between SEAS and UltraEdit. You might also have seen the problem if you updated .NET on an XP system. You know you have the problem if you double click on a line in the error window and UltraEdit either does not open or scrolls to the wrong line number. The install for version 3.8 automatically fixes this issue.

New Satellite Features

As previewed at the last user group, SEAS 3.8 allows satellite orbit specification with two line element sets.  Two propagators are available. The NORAD propagator is restricted and requires filling out a special request form to get it. There is an unrestricted propagator that is part of the standard SEAS distribution.

Enhanced Error Reporting

In addition, we have enhanced error reporting features. You old timers will remember that SEAS was originally designed to shrug at TPL errors but as the user base has grown and TPL has become more complex, you have requested we change that. We take a large step in that direction with this release.

New Graphics Features

We have also updated quite a bit of the graphical capability for 3.8. The new imagery format for 3.8 makes it easier to generate high-resolution imagery sets for your analysis. As a result of the increased data size, SEAS 3.8 will be a disc-based release in the short-term. We intend to grow our bandwidth capabilities to support direct-download updates and patches in the future. We also added support for the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate system for imagery overlays, to support inclusion of more types of COTS and GOTS map imagery. Last, but not least, we have added a number of new features that allow you to customize the graphics being displayed in your model. This will allow you to annotate a running warfile with more information-dense displays to show custom types of interactions. There are many other fixes and changes to look forward to.

We are targeting mid-late July for the final release.
